Healthful Living Vacation

 

cdemo.jpgThe Healthful Living Vacation (H.L.V.) is ideal for those guests seeking to jump start a new diet or those guests who like to meet with a registered dietician to discuss a variety of nutritional issues. The Program consists of an air conditioned room with three daily meals, snacks, guided novice, intermediate or advanced hike, and afternoon kayaking, caving or excursion. Including a one hour personalized session and cooking demonstration with ATA's registered dietician. MINIMUM STAY OF THREE NIGHTS REQUIRED. Guests who stay three nights receive a complimentary copy of our Healthful Living Cookbook.  Massages ($75.00+), boot camp, yoga and tennis lessons ($70.00) are available à la carte.

 

Our program does not encompass fad diets, it involves plain old-fashioned hard work and correctly sized portions of well balanced healthy spa cuisine. Our nutritional workshops are given by register dietitians who both have a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition. They cover cooking demonstrations and nutritional lectures. Our goal is to set you on a path to make healthy choices once you return home. We stress weight loss fundamentals that considers your intake of calories, your daily needs for physical workouts and long term benefits. We believe weight loss is about choices and making the right ones.

For example, choosing a vacation destination, you can choose to go on a cruise, relax and gain weight or choose to come to Vermont to lose weight, take in its beauty and feel healthier, and be stress free. The longer you stay, the better the results. Plus, you will boost your chances of breaking bad habits.


Guests who cannot get away for a week will have the option of staying for 3 nights. Even in that short time, guests can start to feel the benefits of our program; be on the path to weight loss, enhance muscle gain, reduce stress and receiving weight loss education. It is a perfect way to kick-start a new lifestyle and routine, providing long-term incentives to make real changes in your life by abandoning bad habits.

It can make a significant difference in lifestyle through changing bad habits, such as, eating and exercise. Guests can anticipate receiving weight loss education, leaving feeling mentally and physically enhanced. It is a perfect way to learn new routines, abandoning bad habits, making lifestyle changes resulting in optimal weight loss.

 

ATA's registered dietitian presents cooking demonstration while discussing nutritional facts and myths. The cooking sessions will be based on participants' interests and needs.  They can be a demonstration or a hands-on experience if requested in advance.  We will introduce delicious, fresh and wholesome foods.  The focus will be on showing how to buy and prepare those foods, especially the ones not too familiar to most.  Tasting of samples will follow each session. 

 

Our registered dietitians will be available for individual nutrition consults. All consultations are kept confidential. Some nutritional issues they can address are: High cholesterol, High blood sugar, Food allergies, Weight Control, High blood pressure, Menu planning,  Low energy, PMS, Menopause, Liver conditions, Osteoporosis, Cardiovascular condition,  Lactose intolerance, Wheat allergy, Food-medication interaction, Immune disorders,  Anemia and any individual nutritional issues.

 

We also offer a limited selection of a la carte fitness classes. For those guests interested we have a personal trainer available at the Inn for consultations, sessions are available à la carte.

 

We attract both weight loss hikers and athletes so we provide two meal sizes: Healthful Living Portions and Hikers' Portions. The H.L.P. contains approximately 1,500 to 1,700 daily calories and H.P. contains 2,200 to 2,500 daily calories. ATA guests may choose any portion size at each meal. We will also cater to special diets such as vegetarian, vegan, low sugar, sodium- wheat- and dairy-free. While here it's a great time to try some of our vegetarian options. img_1317c.jpgAppalachian Trail Adventures handpicked its hikes out of the 1,000 miles of trails in Vermont's Green Mountains. The majority of our hikes are in the Green Mountain National Forest along the Appalachian Trail and Long Trail, the oldest long distance hiking trail in the country. With over 20 years of experience, we have chosen trails with the best scenic mountain vistas, waterfalls, historical features and lakes. Even our novice hikes will take you along beautiful country trails in the Green Mountain National Forest. In the fall, we offer some of the most spectacular foliage hiking in New England. We are located close to the Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail to provide maximum access to the hiking trails.


Our Hiking is very flexible being for all ability levels, we offer daily hikes from novice to advanced levels. You can turn it up one day and go on an advanced hike and the next day take it easy with a beginner hike or half day hike. ATA customizes each guests' experience, we allow the hikes to be as long or as short as guests wish. Having a guide in front and rear enables some hikers on the same hike to go fast and some to go slowly. On a full day hiking adventure, distances range from 5 to 10 miles depending on hikers' requests and weather. Hiking times vary from 4 to 8 hours with a picnic lunch that is provided. If time allows and guests desire, we provide an excursion to the local village or attraction. 

 

Picture9025cWe also provide a 2 to 4 hour and 3 to 6 mile local half-day hike for guests seeking an afternoon kayaking adventure or an excursion to the local villages or attraction. As an alternative or when in demand, we will visit a beginner cave post hike. Returning from the day's adventure, guests have their personalized session and cooking demonstration with ATA's registered dietician before dinner.  After dinner, guests may get together to watch one of ATA's nature themed movies. The 2 to 4 hour local half-day hike is perfect for guests who need to check out, have relax with a spa treatment, go solo exploring one of Vermont's attractions or villages, take a nap, sit by the pool or to participate in an à la carte activity such as rock climbing, tennis lesson or horseback riding.

 

After hiking, discover Vermont's unspoiled waterways drifting down a beautiful section of a river or a nearby flat water pond or lake. Central Vermont has many great areas to tour by kayak. Looking for a scenic paddle or a view from a different perspective? Kayaks are prefect vehicles to spot wildlife or a way to spend a beautiful afternoon.  Our kayaking adventures are very flexible being for all ability levels with beginners being especially welcome.   The typical afternoon kayak adventure consists of a 1 to 3 hour flat water lake paddle or a more adventurous river paddle.
